Fish Camp '08 (click here for pictures)

Fish Camp '08 was a success, without me there to witness it! Yea! Not that I ever minded going, but I figured it was time to give the guys their space, and let them feel the power of Mackenzie! Apparently she ruled the roost, which doesn't surprise me in the least. She survived on a diet of chocolate bars, s'mores, muffins, and the occasional bowl of mac n cheese, and caught 4 fish! Two had to be thrown back (which she later told me she just didn't understand why because they were all the same size!), but two were keepers. Unfortunately she wouldn't let anyone take a knife to them, so they didn't get eaten. Do I sense a future animal rights activist here????

Anyway, she also went on Daddy's boat for the first time and thought it was ok. She wasn't interested in fishing off of the boat (the fish were caught off of the dock), so she just kept the guys entertained with her songs and stories and questions (hehe - so much for a peaceful afternoon of fishing!).

The crowd was small, and has been dwindling in the past few years as age or busier schedules have kept some away. But, all in all everyone had a great time (or so I was told). Cameron and I just hung around the house. We went for a few walks with the dog and to the zoo, and kept ourselves busy until his 7pm bedtime. After seven, though, I was SO BORED!!! Three nights of sitting home alone and not being able to leave (like I had anywhere to go - but still...) can start wearing on you! So we were both very happy to see Jason and Mackenzie when they returned home. I wonder if both kids will go next year and I'll get a mommy weekend alone??? Wishful thinking...

I think that is so cool that the Mackenzie is such a part of fish camp. What a way to humble a little lady - look at her holding up her own fish :).....And I will be framing the one of her and papa sleeping in the chair together - priceless!!! xxooxoxo - slr
