Pre-School Picnic

Mackenzie (and Cam) had so much fun at Mackenzie's end-of-the-year picnic at the splash park. Mackenzie just loved being at the splash park/playground with all of her best friends, and Cameron was of course Mr. Fearless - he was on every part of the playground (I made Jason stay with him b/c I get too nervous!) and in every water feature of the splash park. The weather was beautiful so the kids were able to stay for quite awhile (til the parents were tired out!). Mackenzie even had a friend over after for more swimming and sun. Now it's on to kindergarten!

I have to admit, though, kindergarten is a little bitter sweet in our house. We're so excited for 'real' school, but we didn't get into the school we applied for (schools of choice), which is where Mackenzie goes to preschool. It's right down the street, and most of her preschool friends will be going there. 'They just had too many kids for next year. So, she'll be going to the school in our district, which is a nice school, too, but not where she thinks she's going. I told her that she might be going to this other school, and she said, "So, I'll be going to two kindergartens?" She didn't quite get it. We've gone to see the new school and tried to meet the teacher(s), but they weren't there yet. Luckily they do kindergarten orientation right before the school year starts, so we haven't missed out on anything. I've just been feeling terrible, though, knowing that I'm going to be breaking her little heart - this is worse than any disappointment you'd ever have to feel for yourself. I know she'll forget all about the disappointment as soon as she starts her new school and starts making new friends, but in the meantime, wish us luck!

Wow, they grow up quick! I can't help but notice the "ham" in her or is it a "flirt" - she's so cute!!!! I'm sure she will be a little upset when she figures out she will have to make new friends at school...but I think she will embrace the change. Think of it this way - by the time you guys move back to R.O. it won't be as hard on her. :) All my love xxoxoxo - slr
