The First Ballet Recital

You are not going to believe how cute Mackenzie was at her recital - it was so precious. Now, there were many long long nights getting to this point (pre-rehearsal, pre-dress rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and two nights of recital, all going from 6-10pm), but it was well worth it. I was a back stage mom for opening night, which I would not recommend. It was not fun taking 6 four year olds into a one stall bathroom while wearing costumes and makeup and tights and sweating (no a/c) and asking lots of questions about the urinal. And then keeping all 15 of them occupied and in our 'area' of the wrestling practice room for FOUR HOURS. Like I said, not fun, but I guess you have to do what you have to do. Jason told me I have to stop volunteering for these things, but I'm sure I won't. I like being a part of things, even if I do complain.

The recital itself was great. The little ones were adorable and the older girls were really good. I thought it was pretty enjoyable. A few of the men in our family nodded off from time to time, but I think everyone generally enjoyed themselves. The second night Mackenzie was searching for us while she was sitting on stage during the finale, so of course Papa stood up and gave a big wave. She spotted us and thought that was pretty cool. It was quite an experience for her. Next year it's on to? She wants to take tap with all of her friends, cheerleading, karate (pronounced Kay-ra-tay by Mackenzie), and singing lessons. We'll see...

Here's a little video of the pre-rehearsal. I took a video of the dress rehearsal, but it's on my real video camera and I can't quite figure out how to transfer that onto my computer. We weren't allowed to video or photograph the actual performance.

Mackenzie also got her first delivery of flowers (thanks, Aunt Betty!), and she was so proud of it :) It was very cute seeing her get all of her flowers and gifts. I got her flowers the first night but had Jason give them to her since he was out in the audience. I also let him take the credit for them (another thing moms just do), and she just thought that daddy was Prince Charming. Very sweet. Of course her friend got a pink teddy bear after night #2, so all we heard was, "Daddy, why didn't you get me a teddy bear?"
