Mackenzie has begun pre-reading and it's so amazing to watch, especially as a (former) teacher. She knows all of her letters, knows the sounds they make, and can take simple words and sound them out with a little help. She can find words in stories and can spell short words, also with a little help. If you don't have it, I highly recommend the Leap Frog videos - Letter Factory was a favorite (30 minute) video over here for awhile and I know that's what really taught her a lot of it. If I remind her of the letter's sound by using a word from the video, she remembers it right away. She's also beginning to write - she can spell and write her name, but gets stuck sometimes on the N and Z (and sometimes K). She is so ready for school! We actually went up there today to check out her classroom in the gym (structural problems/construction in the preschool wing). She was pretty excited to see the tiny tables and chairs, the learning centers, and all the other colorful 'stuff.'
On the Cameron end, he's learned a new skill today, too - pointing. It's very cute - he points at things (Mackenzie and I usually have no idea what it is that he's pointing at) and says, "ooh." I think he's really just oohing and ahhing over his finger, but it's a fun new game to try and figure out what Cameron's pointing at.
