Today was Mackenzie's first day of preschool (well, for the second time since she was in preschool last year, too). She was so super excited with her new outfit on and her new Barbie backpack - running around for 30 minutes before we left yelling, "I'm so excited!!!"
We walked to school, and she talked non-stop. I, of course, thought ahead and wore my sunglasses. Good thinking on my part since I was crying and sniffling the entire walk home (and for quite some time once I got home).
Jason said lots of nice things to me, like I'm a good mom, I should be proud of her, blah blah blah. Whatever. I already know those things and I wasn't thinking very rationally for them to do any good. The idea of homeschooling even crossed my mind - yikes! So you see where my state of mind was. She's my baby and now she's in real preschool! Next year it will be kindergarten, then high school, and before I know it she'll be off to college and moving away.
I'm very sad :( **Gee, I wonder where the kids get their separation anxiety from?**

On a more positive note, the teacher picked Mackenzie to be the first one to go into the classroom, and she thought that was pretty cool. She also liked the fact that there were quite a few girls in her class (outnumbering the boys from what I could tell). I had to say goodbye at the door (no parents allowed to walk in on the first day - or ever? I'll have to find that out...). She gave me hugs and kisses and was off. Not even a little glimmer of sadness in her eyes. I have to admit, though, amidst all my tears, I was pretty excited for her, too. I think this year is going to be great for her. She'll get to make friends and do all the cool stuff you get to do when you go to school. Remember how great preschool/kindergarten were? All the fun, none of the stress. What a lucky girl she is, and what a lucky mom I am that I get to experience it with her.
