Today at Old Navy (yes, we do a lot of shopping), Mackenzie decided to pick out some ‘cutie’ (her word, not mine) little clothes for Mommy's new baby. Do you think she knows? I guess we talk about the new little one a lot, and although we try to use code, like b-a-b-y instead of saying the word, I think she’s caught on.
She doesn’t ask questions anymore, so I think she knows we've been giving her the runaround when she was asking. We were planning on waiting to tell her until right before the ultrasound, and then taking her with us. Should we just tell her now, instead? The more I think about it, I think she’ll understand and be very excited. She won’t grasp the concept of how long it’s going to take for the baby to get here. But, she will be seeing my belly getting bigger, so that should help with the concept.
Can’t you just picture that email joke coming out of her mouth –
“Mommy, you’re tummy’s getting big.”
“I know, remember how I told you that there’s a baby growing in there?”
“Well, then what’s growing in your butt?”
I’ve read all of the parenting books about it, but I would like to know your thoughts/comments on telling this too-smart-for-her-own-good two year old about a new baby… Plus, I like getting comments on my blog :)
